Shawn Frehner, Vet in Viral Horse Video, Found Dead in Lake
A veterinarian who went missing after a video of him kicking a horse sparked outrage has been found dead.
Shawn Frehner’s body was discovered in Lake Mead reservoir over Easter weekend, more than two weeks after he vanished.
Frehner was last seen on April 6. His disappearance came shortly after a video showing him kicking a horse went viral, leading to accusations of animal cruelty. Police later found his wallet, keys, and phone inside his parked truck near Lake Mead.
Shawn Frehner Cause of Death
On April 18, authorities recovered a body from the lake. The Clark County Coroner’s Office confirmed it was Frehner after checking dental records. His cause of death has not been released.
Frehner’s father, Rex, told the *Las Vegas Review-Journal* that his son was struggling with his horses before vanishing. He last spoke to him at 9 a.m. on April 6 but had no idea why Shawn would go to Lake Mead—especially since he didn’t own a boat.
Rex also mentioned his son owned a gun, but it’s unclear if he took it to the lake.
Before his death, Frehner faced heavy criticism after Shawna Gonzalez accused him of kicking a horse he was treating. The video spread quickly, damaging his reputation.
Police have not confirmed whether Frehner’s death was accidental or intentional. The case remains under investigation.
