Who is Lucy Guo? She Overtakes Taylor Swift as Youngest Self-Made Female Billionaire

23 April, 2025 15:55

At just 30 years old, Lucy Guo has been named the youngest self-made woman billionaire in the world, according to Forbes. She has now taken the title from global pop star Taylor Swift, who previously held the spot.

While she may not be as famous as some celebrities, Lucy Guo is making headlines around the world for her success in the tech industry. Forbes estimates her net worth at $1.25 billion. That’s right — 1.25 billion dollars.

From Scale AI to Billionaire Status

Lucy Guo started her journey as a co-founder of Scale AI, an artificial intelligence company. She helped start the business in 2016. Although she left the company in 2018, she kept most of her shares. This smart move paid off. Her shares in Scale AI are now worth about $1.2 billion.

Guo didn’t stop after leaving Scale AI. She launched a second startup called Passes, a platform focused on helping creators earn money online. Her shares in Passes and other investments bring her total wealth to $1.25 billion.

A Unique Life

Lucy Guo’s lifestyle is very different from most people her age. In a 2023 interview with Fortune, she said she doesn’t take real vacations. Even when she travels, she works at least eight hours a day. However, she did say that she wants to visit New Zealand one day.

When asked where she buys groceries, Guo gave a surprising answer: “I don’t.” This gives a small glimpse into her busy and unique daily life.

Homes in Miami and Los Angeles

Guo splits her time between Miami and Los Angeles. She owns a stylish apartment in Miami and a house in LA, which is only five minutes from her office.

In 2024, she bought a $4.2 million home in Los Angeles, according to the Robb Report. The house is modern and has several luxury features, including a screening room, dipping pool, and rooftop deck.

From Humble Beginnings

Lucy Guo didn’t grow up rich. In the same interview with Fortune, she shared how her parents were very frugal. She said they didn’t use much heating to save money, wore cheap clothes, and made sure not to waste food.

This strict and modest upbringing helped shape her mindset. She learned to work hard and value everything she had.

Luxury Watch with a Story

Guo also talked about the most expensive thing she ever bought — a $500,000 Audemars Piguet Tourbillon watch. The watch is decorated with white baguette diamonds. However, she rarely wears it.

“I see it as a piece of art that I will hand down to my grandchildren one day,” she said. “I wear it for very fancy events, but I’m not trying to get murdered,” she joked.
