Santa Ana police arrest suspected serial cat killer
A man described as a “serial cat killer” has been caught in California after being seen on video, according to police.
Santa Ana police arrested 45-year-old Alejandro Acosta Oliveros on Wednesday. He was seen in a video wearing a hood and grabbing a cat from between two parked cars.
Police said they had received several disturbing reports about someone abusing and killing cats. They didn’t share the exact number of cats involved.
Oliveros was identified by both victims and witnesses, and when police searched his home, they found evidence related to the crimes. However, they didn’t say what kind of evidence it was.
People living in the Orange County area had been sharing posts online for weeks about cats going missing. One person posted on the app Nextdoor, saying they saw security footage of someone grabbing a cat, tying its legs, and taking it away around 5 pm.
Another person claimed that a man killed their neighbor’s cat by injecting it with something.
In one shocking case in nearby Westminster, a 10-month-old Bengal Lynx cat named Clubber was taken from outside a house on March 21. Police said the man tried to lure the cat, likely using food, then picked it up and left in a white pickup truck.
Thankfully, police later got a tip about the missing cat and found Clubber at a home in Santa Ana. The cat was safe and returned to his owners.
Oliveros is now facing felony animal cruelty charges and is being held at the Santa Ana Jail.
