Actor Danny Dyer has opened up in an emotional and deeply personal interview, admitting to years of drug use, cheating, and self-destruction. But at the heart of his story is a powerful tale of redemption—and the woman who helped him find his way back.

In the new ITV series “The Assembly”, Danny faced one of the toughest interviews of his life. A group of neurodivergent and learning-disabled interviewers asked raw, no-holds-barred questions. And Danny didn’t hold back.

“There was nothing off the table,” Danny admitted. “And I told the truth.”

Danny confessed that in the early 2000s, his wife Joanne Mas had to take a drastic step—clearing out their joint bank account and kicking him out of the house.

“She did kick me out because I was a pr***,” he said. “She deserved better. I would go missing for days, getting off my head on drugs. I had issues—I never wanted the party to end.”

He added, “She controls everything now. And I’m okay with that.”

Danny and Joanne met at just 14 years old, long before his rise to fame. In those early days, it was Jo who supported them financially while working as a financial adviser.

But fame changed things. Danny admitted he lost himself when the spotlight hit. “It f****d my head up,” he shared on the How To Fail podcast. “I didn’t know what to do with it.”

Their relationship was tested—especially when Danny admitted to cheating.

Danny described his infidelity as a mistake he deeply regrets. “I thought the grass was greener,” he said. “But the grass was horrible. I don’t ever want to go there again.”

Joanne’s response was filled with grace and strength. Speaking to Hello! magazine, she said:
“It’s been hard, but I’ve got over it. When you have children, it isn’t just about me and Danny. I wouldn’t destroy the lives of my babies over something that doesn’t matter.”

Despite everything, Joanne proposed to Danny on Valentine’s Day in 2015. They married the following year and now share three children—Dani Dyer (of Love Island fame), Sunnie, and Arty.

Now, Danny credits his wife for keeping him grounded, saying:
“She stood by me through all the s**t. She challenges me every day. I love her with all my heart.”

He continued, “Being with someone for that long, especially under public scrutiny, is tough. But we made it. And I know now—I’d be lost without her.”
