Jurgen Klopp may have found himself reliving old emotions after Arne Slot secured Liverpool’s 20th Premier League title — matching Manchester United at the top of the all-time list.
Slot, 46, achieved the remarkable feat by leading Liverpool to a dominant 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, clinching the title in his very first season — a feat reminiscent of Antonio Conte’s triumph with Chelsea in 2017.
The city of Liverpool erupted in pure celebration.
Red flares lit up the skyline, and jubilant fans in Liverpool jerseys flooded the streets, turning the city into a sea of red as they rejoiced late into the night.
Meanwhile, Klopp — watching from afar — might have felt a bittersweet mix of pride and longing. His own title-winning celebrations in 2020 were starkly different, muted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Back then, after Chelsea’s win over Manchester City handed Liverpool the crown, Klopp celebrated at Formby Golf Club with his squad and later at an empty Anfield for the trophy presentation.
Donning a Liverpool cap and shirt, Klopp gave a passionate interview to Sky Sports News, his voice breaking with emotion.
“It is unbelievable,” he said through tears. “It’s much more than I ever thought would be possible. For our fans: It’s for you. It is incredible. It is a joy to do it for you.”
He continued, reflecting on the hardship and triumph of the season:
“We had to convince people and that is what we did together. It is a huge moment. I am completely overwhelmed. I had no idea it would feel like this.”
His pride in his players was unmistakable:
“It’s an incredible achievement by my players and a huge joy for me to coach them. It is so incredibly difficult in this competition, but consistency drives us.”
Overcome with emotion, Klopp eventually had to step away, the interview ending as he fought back tears.
Klopp May Join Liverpool’s New Celebrations
Fast forward to 2025, and Klopp, now a beloved figure in Liverpool’s history, hinted he might be present during the celebrations — though not as part of the team.
Speaking at a fundraiser event in South Africa, Klopp revealed:
“Yes, the plan is [to be in Liverpool], but not on the bus. I will be there with the people I saw on the bus. That’s the idea, to be honest, but we will see.”
He admitted to staying away during the run-in to avoid being a bad omen:
“I didn’t want to go earlier because I didn’t want to jinx it. If I’m in the stadium for the first time and they lose, ‘oh f*** sake.’ So I go there when it’s decided.”
It seems Klopp, much like the fans, couldn’t stay away from the magic of Liverpool’s triumph. Whether watching from afar or celebrating with supporters, the German manager remains forever woven into the fabric of Liverpool’s incredible story.
