Harrowing final moments of motorbike riders killed at Oulton Park

A tragic accident took place during the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race at Oulton Park on Monday evening, claiming the lives of two young superbike riders.

Owen Jenner, 21, from Crowborough, East Sussex, and Shane Richardson, 29, from New Zealand, were fatally injured in a devastating crash that occurred at the very start of the race. The accident happened at the Old Hall corner, the first turn of the track, causing 11 riders to fall from their bikes. The race was immediately stopped and later cancelled due to the severity of the crash.

Both riders received urgent medical treatment at the scene. Jenner suffered a catastrophic head injury and died at the racetrack. Richardson, who had serious chest injuries, was rushed to Royal Stoke University Hospital but sadly died before reaching the hospital.

A third rider, 47-year-old Tom Tunstall, also suffered significant injuries to his back and abdomen and remains in hospital. Five other riders were treated at the track’s medical centre but were not hospitalized.

The crash occurred just one day after both riders had competed in qualifying rounds. On Monday morning, Jenner shared posts on Instagram, expressing hope for a better race day. Richardson also posted about his excitement for the main race, reflecting on Sunday’s performance and looking forward to improving his results.

Richardson is survived by his British partner, Hannah, and their two young children. His last post on social media showed a touching moment of him pushing his son on a toy bike at home.

MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR), the race organizers, released an official statement confirming the deaths. They described the crash as a “chain reaction” incident and called it a “catastrophic accident.”

Cheshire Police have launched an investigation into the incident on behalf of the coroner. They confirmed both fatalities and stated that a full inquiry will take place alongside MSVR and the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board.
