Teddi Mellencamp Shares Heartbreaking Update Amid Stage Four Cancer Battle

07 May, 2025 19:06

Reality star and podcast host Teddi Mellencamp has shared an emotional and deeply personal update on her ongoing battle with stage four cancer. After being diagnosed with melanoma in 2022, Mellencamp recently revealed that the cancer had metastasized to her brain and lungs, leading to multiple surgeries and intensive treatment.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, 43, underwent a critical brain surgery earlier this year. Just days ago, she made a brave appearance at the Women’s Cancer Research Fund’s gala, opting to forgo a wig and instead show her healing scars with pride. The event marked her first public outing since her latest hospital stay.

On Instagram, Mellencamp posted a selfie wearing a blonde wig and opened up about the emotional toll of her journey. “The day-to-day decision of wig versus no wig. Crying days I tend to pick the wig,” she wrote. She encouraged her followers to prioritize annual checkups, noting, “The highs and lows of treatment for stage 4 brain and lung tumors are pretty extreme. Please go get your yearly checks.”

As May marks Melanoma Awareness Month, Mellencamp emphasized the importance of early detection. “There’s no better time than now to schedule a check-up or remind a loved one,” she urged.

Teddi shared that immunotherapy is showing promising results — her tumors have “shrunk a bunch,” and her medical team believes the treatment is working. She has two more sessions left, with a major evaluation scheduled for June 1.

Despite critics questioning her return to horseback riding, Mellencamp stood firm, explaining, “My doctor told me, ‘Teddi, you should be doing everything that you love right now.’” She added that joy, laughter, and the support of her children — Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5 — have helped her stay strong.

Her former husband Edwin Arroyave has also been by her side, with the couple pausing their divorce proceedings amidst her treatment.

Reflecting on her journey, Mellencamp said, “I feel good. I know it feels really devastating right now, but everything — it gets better.” She also expressed gratitude for the love she’s received from family, including her father, John Mellencamp, and close friend Kyle Richards.

In a recent Instagram video, she announced, “My tumors have significantly shrunk, and doctors believe this means the treatment is working. Hopefully, I’ll be cancer-free soon.”

Though she once faced a 50-50 survival chance, Mellencamp remains hopeful and committed to using her platform to raise awareness. “I walked around for months not knowing I had tumors. Now I hear from people who got checked because of my story — that means everything.”
