A district and sessions court sentenced well-known Rawalpindi-based TikToker Rehana, popularly known as ‘Zakhmi Sherni’, to death on Saturday after she was found guilty of murder. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 500,000.
Rehana, aka ‘Zakhmi Sherni,’ a social media personality who gained fame for her TikTok videos, was convicted for fatally shooting her cousin, Lajpal Hussain Shah, during a family dispute over a marriage proposal. Armed with a 30-bore pistol, she entered his home and shot him dead. The incident took place on March 23, 2023, in Kotli Sattian, Murree, and was registered with the local police. Following the murder, Rehana fled with her sister, Mehnaz, who was also implicated in the case. However, Rehana was arrested months later, and the police recovered the murder weapon from her possession.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Farhat Jabeen, in a reserved verdict, stated that Rehana’s crime was severe and did not warrant leniency, sentencing her to death by hanging. She was transferred to Adiala Jail after the sentencing.
Throughout her trial, Rehana continued to create TikTok videos, often filming herself in handcuffs during court appearances. After the verdict was announced, she expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, saying, “The decision is not fair. I will appeal to the Lahore High Court (LHC).”
The murder case was filed by the deceased’s brother, Zamir Hussain, at Kotli Sattian Police Station. Several female TikTokers were present in court to observe the proceedings.
