Massive Power Failure Shuts Down Entire London Underground

12 May, 2025 19:22

A major power outage has caused the entire London Underground to shut down on Monday, May 12, 2025, according to reports. Several Tube lines have been suspended, and the rest of the system is facing severe delays.

Transport for London (TfL) confirmed that the Bakerloo and Suffragette lines are completely suspended. The Elizabeth Line, Jubilee Line, and Northern Line are also only partially operating, with significant delays affecting services.

At Tottenham Court Road station, passengers were reportedly evacuated as a safety measure. Many commuters were left stranded or redirected to alternative transport.

TfL stated that London Underground tickets will be accepted on other reasonable London bus routes to help people complete their journeys.

This comes after several recent power outages in Spain and the Canary Islands, raising concerns about regional electricity infrastructure. However, there is no official link between those incidents and today’s failure in London.

The London Underground is one of the busiest metro systems in the world. On average, 3.23 million people use it daily, with numbers rising to 4 million on peak days.

Authorities are working to restore power and resume normal service as soon as possible.
