Jalisco Cartel Leader ‘El Doble R’ Named Prime Suspect in Murder of Valeria Marquez

Beauty influencer shot dead during livestream 'had dated cartel hitman who was enraged about her receiving gifts from followers' - and posted ‘I’ve stopped being around thugs’ shortly before she died
Valeria Marquez, a 23-year-old beauty influencer from Mexico, was shot and killed on Tuesday while livestreaming from her salon in Zapopan, a city in the western state of Jalisco. She was gunned down by a man disguised as a delivery worker.
Valeria had over 110,000 followers on TikTok, where she regularly posted beauty and lifestyle content. Her shocking murder is now being investigated under Mexico’s femicide laws, which are used in cases of gender-based violence.
Connection to a Cartel Hitman
According to Mexican newspaper El Heraldo, Valeria was in a relationship with a feared cartel figure known as ‘Doble R’. He is reportedly a hitman linked to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG)—one of Mexico’s most dangerous criminal organizations.
Sources claim that Doble R became jealous after Valeria received expensive gifts from her fans online. Their relationship reportedly turned abusive, and Valeria had recently spoken about being threatened.
In a livestream just hours before her death, she mentioned that a masked courier had earlier tried to deliver her a gift, joking: “Maybe they were going to kill me or something.”
In another recent clip, she reflected on changing her life: “I’ve changed. I don’t go out anymore. I don’t drink. I stay away from criminals. I’m a good girl now.”
Brutal Attack Captured on Camera
Video footage from her salon shows the moment an armed man entered and opened fire. Valeria was shot once in the chest and twice in the head. She died on the scene.
Doble R’s Violent History
Doble R is also suspected in the 2012 murder of Venezuelan model Daisy Ferrer Arenas, whose body was found in a canal. He allegedly ordered the killing of other influencers, including Juan Luis Lagunas, known as “El Pirata de Culiacan,” who was shot after insulting CJNG leader Nemesio Oseguera.
Pattern of Violence Against Influencers
Valeria’s murder follows the deaths of three other social media figures in recent months:
Juan Carlos Lopez, killed in October while filming a video.
Jesus Miguel Vivanco Garcia, found tortured and shot 70 times.
Leobardo Aisputo Soto, gunned down in December while walking with his wife.
Political Violence Adds to the Chaos
Just days before Valeria’s death, Yesenia Lara Gutierrez, a mayoral candidate in Veracruz, was shot dead during a live rally. Her daughter and two supporters were also killed.
The shooting, broadcast on Facebook Live, captured the terrifying moment as 20+ shots rang out, causing panic in the crowd. Governor Rocio Nahle condemned the killing and vowed justice.
Mexico’s Crisis of Violence
These tragic incidents reflect the growing dangers faced by women and public figures in Mexico. Gender-based violence and cartel-related murders continue to rise, with social media influencers and political leaders increasingly at risk.
Valeria Marquez’s murder is a painful reminder of the harsh reality in parts of Mexico, where fame and influence can make individuals targets.
