British Tourist Fights for Life After Brutal Knife Attack in Pattaya, Thailand

17 May, 2025 13:57

A British tourist from Manchester is in critical condition after reportedly being stabbed multiple times and thrown from a moving car in the city of Pattaya, Thailand.

Horrific Attack in Broad Daylight

The victim, 36-year-old Andrew Joseph Cook, was traveling in a white Toyota Veloz with two other foreign nationals and a Thai woman when the vehicle pulled into a parking lot.

Witnesses say Cook was already bleeding when the driver dragged him from the backseat and threw him onto the pavement. Moments later, the driver allegedly stabbed him repeatedly in the chest and stomach before fleeing the scene with the others.

Cook’s wounds were described as deep and severe, with fat reportedly spilling from his abdomen and a 10cm slash across the left side of his face. Footage captured shortly after the incident shows a barely-conscious Cook lying on the ground as emergency responders tried to stop the bleeding.

Emergency Response and Investigation

Cook was immediately rushed to Pattaya Pathomkhun Hospital, where he remains in intensive care and is currently unable to give a statement.

A local taxi driver, Sayan Samanmit, witnessed the attack but admitted he was too afraid to intervene. However, he managed to take a photo of the getaway vehicle’s license plate, which has become a crucial lead in the investigation.

“I heard shouting and then the car sped away,” Samanmit said. “The foreign man was lying on the ground in pain.”

Police: Victim Knew the Attackers

Lieutenant Colonel Suthiraphan Tapsri of the Thai police confirmed that Cook appeared to know his attackers, and investigators suspect a personal argument may have led to the violent assault.

Authorities are now analyzing CCTV footage from nearby areas as they continue their search for the suspects, who fled along Pattaya South Road. No arrests have yet been made.

Concerns About Tourist Safety in Pattaya

The beach city of Pattaya, long known for its nightlife and s*x tourism, has a growing reputation for crime. While most incidents involving tourists are non-violent scams or theft, this brutal assault has raised concerns among visitors and local officials.

British authorities have not yet commented publicly, but efforts are underway to assist Cook and his family.
