New Sightings of Missing Cardiff Mother Charlene Hobbs Being Investigated by Police

17 May, 2025 17:21

Police in Cardiff are investigating new possible sightings of Charlene Hobbs, a 36-year-old mother who has been missing since July 24, 2024. She vanished after a trip to Morrisons in the Adamsdown area of Cardiff.

Charlene, from the Riverside area, was last seen early in the morning at 6:07 AM in a home on Broadway, Adamsdown. A day earlier, she was caught on CCTV inside Morrisons Local. In the video, she is seen with her hair in a bun, wearing a dark, strapless top. A dragon tattoo is clearly visible on her back.

In the clip, she holds a phone to her ear, walks to the till, and leaves with what seems to be cash in her hand. That was her last confirmed sighting.

Police Now Investigating Two New Leads

South Wales Police now say Charlene may have been seen after she went missing. Witnesses have told police they may have spotted her in Adamsdown and Coryton in the days and months following her disappearance.

One sighting was reported at 11:20 AM on July 29, 2024, on the Black Bridge railway bridge. A woman, believed to be Charlene, was seen walking with two men. One man was white, in his 30s or 40s, and of average height. The other wore a black face covering and was also of average height.

Another possible sighting came on November 1, 2024, at around 5:30 PM at the Asda store in Coryton. A woman matching Charlene’s description was seen standing near the security desk with a young boy, around four years old.

A woman with short burgundy hair, aged around 40, reportedly approached her. The three then left the store together.

Police Still Treating Case as Murder

Police say they are still treating the case as a murder investigation. A 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the case and is out on police bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Powell said new information has led to these possible sightings being investigated. He urged the two men from the railway bridge and the woman with burgundy hair to come forward.

He added: “Despite many enquiries, we have no proof Charlene is alive. But we remain determined to find her and bring answers to her family.”

Charlene’s family is being updated. Police have reminded the public that Crimestoppers is offering a £20,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
