Two Helicopters Crash Mid-Air in Finland — Residents Witness Horrific Accident

17 May, 2025 16:42

Two helicopters crashed into each other in mid-air over Eura, a town in western Finland. The accident happened just after 12:30 PM, shocking people living nearby. Both helicopters went down quickly and crashed near Eura Airport.

Local police confirmed the incident and said they got the first emergency call at around 12:35 PM. Rescue teams were quickly sent to the area. The wreckage of both helicopters was later found outside the airport zone.

Eyewitness Saw the Collision

A local resident, Antti Marjanen, lives in the nearby town of Kauttua. He said he saw the two helicopters flying in from the direction of Säkylä.

“At first, I admired them. You don’t see such helicopters often,” he told Finnish news outlet Iltalehti.

But then, things changed quickly. According to Marjanen, one of the helicopters suddenly moved to the side and hit the other.

“One dropped straight down like a rock. The other one also crashed but more slowly. It was silent. I didn’t even hear a crash,” he added.

Not Part of Military Exercises

There was some confusion at first because British military helicopters had been seen in the area in April during Finnish Army exercises. However, a Finnish military spokesperson confirmed that this accident did not involve any military aircraft—neither Finnish nor international.

Flight Data Reveals Journey

Flight data from FlightRadar24 showed that both helicopters had taken off from Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. They were flying side by side for some time before the crash. Their destination was not shown on the radar.

The data shows both helicopters stopped transmitting signals just north of Eura Airport, matching the crash location.

Investigation Underway

Search and rescue teams found the wreckage soon after the crash. It’s still not known how many people were on board or if anyone survived. Police have launched an investigation and are now trying to identify the helicopters, their owners, and what caused the crash.

Officials are asking people who saw the crash or have phone video footage to come forward. The investigation may take some time, as this type of accident is very rare in Finland.

Finland Shaken by Rare Air Crash

This mid-air helicopter collision has shocked many people in Finland. The skies over Eura are usually quiet. Locals are not used to seeing helicopters, especially not such tragic scenes.

As of now, no official cause of the crash has been given. Authorities are working hard to understand what went wrong.
