A book of condolence will be opened at Garth House in Bicester on Monday following a devastating fire that claimed the lives of two firefighters and a local businessman at Bicester Motion business park on Thursday evening.
The victims have been named as:
Jennie Logan, 30
Martyn Sadler, 38
David Chester, 57
Logan and Sadler, both firefighters with Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, died in the line of duty while battling the intense blaze. Mr Sadler was also affiliated with the London Fire Brigade. Chester, a father of two and owner of Chesters & Sons, was also killed in the incident.
Town Pays Tribute
A two-minute silence was held on Sunday at Garth Park, where members of the Bicester community gathered in remembrance. Bicester Town Council has announced a book of condolence will open at 09:00 BST on Monday at Garth House for all who wish to pay tribute.
Firefighters Were Part of Local Rugby Team
Both Logan and Sadler were active members of Bicester Rugby Union Football Club, specifically involved with the Bicester Vixens women’s team.
“We are a tight-knit club. We are a family and it’s hit the club and the wider community very hard,” said Paul Jaggers, chairman of BRUFC.
“Losing two of your members in any situation is really tough, and it’s had a profound impact.”
A Respected Local Businessman
David Chester, who lived in Bicester, had operated his family-run business at the Bicester Motion estate for 12 years. The estate team said he was “part of the fabric of our estate and a friend to us all.”
Historic England, which had previously collaborated with Chester, described him as a “valued partner” and said it was a “privilege” to have worked alongside him.
Ongoing Investigation
Two other firefighters remain hospitalised with serious injuries, according to Thames Valley Police.
Authorities confirmed the fire investigation is “complex and may take some time.” Fire investigators are currently working alongside police to determine the cause of the blaze.
