Who is Anuradha Paswan? Woman Arrested for Marrying 25 Men in 7 Months in Shocking Matrimonial Scam

21 May, 2025 14:17

In an unbelievable case of matrimonial fraud, a 23-year-old woman named Anuradha Paswan has been arrested for allegedly marrying 25 men across multiple Indian states within just seven months, only to vanish with their valuables days later.

Nicknamed the “loot-and-scoot bride”, Anuradha was apprehended in Bhopal by Sawai Madhopur Police in Rajasthan after a victim, Vishnu Sharma, filed a complaint.

How the Scam Worked

Anuradha is reportedly part of a well-organized marriage racket that targeted unmarried men looking for brides. She entered into legal marriages—complete with court documentation—and then fled within days, stealing cash, gold, and electronics.

In Vishnu Sharma’s case, he paid Rs 2 lakh to agents Sunita and Pappu Meena to help him find a bride. Anuradha married him on April 20, but by May 2, she had disappeared along with his possessions.

From Nurse to Con Artist

According to Investigating Officer Meetha Lal, Anuradha previously worked at a hospital in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, and had separated from her husband after a domestic dispute. She later moved to Bhopal, where she got involved with a marriage fraud gang.

The gang used WhatsApp and other platforms to advertise women for marriage, charging unsuspecting men between Rs 2 to Rs 5 lakh per match.

Undercover Operation Led to Arrest

Anuradha’s arrest was made possible after police deployed an undercover officer posing as a potential groom. Once her photo was circulated by an agent, police moved quickly to detain her.

More Suspects Involved

Police have identified several other alleged members of the marriage scam ring, including:

  • Roshni

  • Raghubir

  • Golu

  • Majboot Singh Yadav

  • Arjan
All are reportedly operating out of Bhopal and are currently under investigation.

What This Means for the Public

This case highlights the growing threat of matrimonial fraud in India. Authorities urge people to:

  • Avoid cash-based or unverified marriage agents

  • Use only legitimate matrimonial platforms

  • Conduct background checks and legal verification before entering into marriage
