RANDWICK, SYDNEY – A 47-year-old tradesman tragically lost his life after being electrocuted while working on a cherry picker in Randwick, a suburb of eastern Sydney.

The incident occurred just before 2:00 PM on Darley Road, where the man, believed to be an employee of Ausgrid, came into contact with overhead power lines and suffered a cardiac arrest.

According to police and emergency services, co-workers immediately brought him down from the elevated platform and started performing CPR at the scene. Paramedics arrived shortly afterward and continued lifesaving efforts.

The man was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital in critical condition, but sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Residents Without Power After Tragic Incident

The electrical accident also led to temporary power outages in parts of Randwick, affecting several local residents. Ausgrid crews remained on-site in the hours following the tragedy, working to restore power and ensure the area was safe.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have launched an investigation into the workplace accident. NSW Police established a crime scene, and the incident has been referred to SafeWork NSW, which will look into how the tradie came into contact with the live power lines.

A report is being prepared for the coroner, and both Ausgrid and SafeWork NSW have been contacted for comment.
