Britney Spears Breaks Silence After Airplane Controversy Involving Vodka and Smoking
Britney Spears addresses smoking on a private jet
LOS ANGELES – Pop icon Britney Spears has responded to the latest controversy surrounding her in-flight behavior that raised health and safety concerns.
According to TMZ, the singer was flying from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to LAX with her security team when she allegedly began drinking vodka and lit a cigarette mid-flight. Flight attendants, reportedly alarmed by the situation, asked her to put out the cigarette, which she did.
Later, Spears addressed the incident through a video and a lengthy caption on her official Instagram page.
Britney’s Side of the Story
In the video, Britney is seen smiling and toasting to the camera, seemingly carefree. Her caption began: “Me yesterday!!!”
She went on to explain her actions, saying: “Some planes I’ve been on you can’t smoke mostly but this one was different because the drink holders were on outside of seat!!! Confession it was my first time drinking VODKA!!! I swear I felt so SMART!!!”
Britney said the vodka made her feel “clear and smart,” which led to her craving a cigarette.
“My friend put it in my mouth and lit it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE!!!”
An Apology With A Twist
The “Toxic” singer apologized to anyone who might have been offended but added that she was seated at the back of the plane and didn’t think it would be a big issue.
She expressed confusion over why airport officials were called and claimed she felt targeted by a flight attendant who, she said, didn’t like her from the moment she boarded.
“She wouldn’t let me get out of my seat… I didn’t like the way she put the seatbelt on me and invaded my space!!!”
Despite the tension, Britney lightened the post by pointing out her flower choker, teasing fans about an upcoming brand: “B tiny is coming soon and that’s something we have added!!! It’s honestly adorable!!!”
Public Reaction and Ongoing Concern
Fans and followers remain divided—some defending the pop star’s right to relax, while others raise concerns over her behavior. Mental health advocates and flight safety experts continue to stress the importance of rules aboard commercial flights.
