Gunfire After Crash
According to local media, the situation escalated quickly after the vehicle involved in the crash allegedly pinned a police officer to a wall. That officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the crash, police reportedly opened fire. A woman was shot and killed, and a man was also injured. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Resident Reactions
Residents in the area of Church Street and Dow Street said they heard loud bangs before police swarmed the scene. A local man named Alan told reporters:
“There were certainly a couple of loud bangs. Then the police arrived en masse.”
He also saw a person “lying in the middle of the road getting chest compressions.”
Another witness described seeing police entering a nearby building shortly after the shooting.
Heavy Emergency Presence
Dow Street has been cordoned off and remains an active crime scene. More than 12 police vehicles and ambulances were spotted at the site. Investigators are working to understand what triggered the chain of events that led to gunfire.
