Junaid Safdar Gets Engaged to Nawaz Sharif’s Cousin’s Granddaughter

Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, got engaged in a private ceremony held in Lahore on Wednesday night.

The engagement was with the daughter of Usman Javed and granddaughter of Mian Javed Shafi, a close relative and first cousin of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Usman Javed, 48, resides in Model Town and is the son of Javed Shafi. Usman’s grandfather, Mian Shafi, and Nawaz Sharif’s father, Mian Sharif, were brothers, making the families closely related.

The engagement ceremony took place in Model Town and was attended by family members, including Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and Javed Shafi. The nikah ceremony is expected to be held in the coming weeks.

This marks Junaid Safdar’s second engagement. He was previously married to Ayesha Saif, daughter of Qatar-based businessman Saifur Rahman Khan. The wedding took place in London in 2021 at The Lanesborough in Knightsbridge. The couple divorced in October 2023.

Following the divorce, Junaid moved back to Pakistan full-time to support his mother in her political duties. He holds two Master’s and two Bachelor’s degrees from UK universities. He earned a Master’s in International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2020 and another Master’s in Global Governance and Ethics from University College London (UCL).
