Ben Griffin Hits Fan with Tee Shot at Memorial Tournament — Still Walks Away with a Souvenir

Griffin signed a glove for the fan after his tee shot went left on the 17th hole at the Memorial
Ben Griffin had a tough day at the Memorial Tournament. The event took place at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Griffin started the day well. He was just one stroke behind leader Scottie Scheffler.
But things went wrong on the 17th hole. Griffin hit a bad tee shot. The ball went left and hit a fan standing near the crowd. The fan was wearing a blue polo shirt and a red Ohio State cap.
The man did not know what had hit him at first. He looked back and held his back. Soon, he saw the crowd watching Griffin’s golf ball near his feet. The fan had a large red mark on his back where the ball struck him.
Griffin learned about the accident and signed a glove for the fan. The fan, now without his shirt, showed the red mark to the cameras. CBS commentator Dottie Pepper said the ball hit the fan with strong force. It sounded like it hit the cart path.
Griffin’s bad shot caused him to score a double bogey on the hole. It was his worst score that day. Overall, Griffin finished the round with one over par. He ended up four strokes behind Scottie Scheffler.
Scheffler played very well and won the tournament. This was his second Memorial Tournament win in a row. It was also his 21st career victory and third win of the season. He won a major championship earlier this year at the PGA Championship.
Despite the injury, the fan stayed calm and accepted Griffin’s glove. The moment was shocking but showed good sportsmanship from Griffin.
