Chinese influencer Qian Qian Dies After Eating Too Much Spicy Food: Doctors Issue Warning

02 June, 2025 19:18

On May 24, 2025, a young Chinese influencer named Qianquian sadly passed away from stomach cancer. She was only 28 years old.

Qianquian was diagnosed with the disease last year. She had been feeling stomach pain but ignored it at first. When the pain became very strong, she had a gastroscopy test. This showed she had stomach cancer.

The influencer, who had over 10,000 followers, shared her health journey on social media. She also spoke to local news about what she thought might have caused her illness.

Qianquian said she often skipped breakfast, ate at irregular times, and loved spicy food. She added that her stomach was not very healthy.

Her condition got worse in March 2025. Sadly, she died just two months later.

Dr. Li Sijin, a blood and cancer specialist at Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital in Taiwan, said diet can affect stomach cancer risk.

She explained that eating too many chilli peppers can irritate the stomach’s lining. This irritation can increase the chance of developing stomach cancer.

Dr. Li said chilli can be healthy if eaten in moderation. But eating very spicy and salty food for a long time may raise cancer risk. She also warned about pickled foods, smoking, and drinking alcohol.

The doctor said irregular eating times do not have a big effect on the stomach.

She urged people to see a doctor if they have stomach pain or discomfort that lasts a long time. Dr. Li also encouraged healthy eating habits for better stomach health.

Symptoms of stomach cancer to watch for:

  • Acid reflux

  • Trouble swallowing

  • Feeling sick or vomiting

  • Indigestion

  • Feeling full quickly

  • Loss of appetite or weight loss

  • Pain or a lump in the stomach

  • Feeling very tired
