Liverpool Car Crash During Premier League Title Parade Injures 109 People

02 June, 2025 18:40

On Monday, May 26, 2025, just after 6 pm, a car drove into crowds of people on Water Street in Liverpool city centre. The crowd was celebrating Liverpool FC’s Premier League title. Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene.

A week after the crash, Merseyside Police confirmed that 109 people have been injured. Four people remain in hospital receiving treatment. Specialist officers are supporting the injured and their families.

Police have asked for help from officers in Greater Manchester, Cumbria, Lancashire, North Wales, and Cheshire to assist with the investigation. They continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson said: “This is a complex investigation that is still ongoing. We have received over 500 reports and videos from the public. Our detectives are carefully reviewing all the information. If anyone has information and has not yet contacted us, please do so urgently.”

Paul Desmond Sanders Doyle, 53, from West Derby, has been charged with several serious offences. These include unlawful wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, attempted grievous bodily harm, and dangerous driving. He appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on May 30 and was remanded in custody. His trial is set to start on November 24 and may last three to four weeks.

Detective Superintendent Wilson also urged the public not to speculate or share unverified information or videos. “It is important to allow the judicial process to take its course,” she said.

In support of the victims, a fundraiser called the ‘Liverpool Spirit Appeal’ has been launched. It has already raised over £50,000. The fund will help those injured and provide support for their medical and psychological care.

People with information or video evidence can share it through the Major Incident Police Portal. They can also contact Merseyside Police via social media on X (@MerPolCC) or Facebook (Merseyside Police Contact Centre), or call 101.
