Scottish Gangsters Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr Shot Dead in Costa del Sol Bar Attack

Two well-known Scottish gangsters, Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr, were gunned down in a brutal shooting at a bar in Fuengirola, a coastal town in Spain’s Costa del Sol, on the night of Saturday, June 1. The shocking attack took place at a popular Irish bar named Monaghans, in front of dozens of families and tourists who had gathered to watch the UEFA Champions League final.

According to Spanish media reports, the gunman—who was masked and armed—stepped out of a car and opened fire on the two men. The incident happened on the terrace of the bar just before midnight.

One Victim Died on the Spot, Second Died Inside Bar

Eddie Lyons Jr, 46, was shot in the chest at close range and died instantly at the scene. Ross Monaghan, 43, reportedly tried to escape by running into the bar. But the attacker followed and shot him multiple times in the chest and abdomen. Monaghan also died at the bar.

A Woman Said to Be Monaghan’s Wife Witnessed the Attack

Reports suggest that a woman believed to be Monaghan’s wife was present during the shooting and may have witnessed the entire incident.

Gunman Fled with Accomplice

The masked shooter ran away after the attack and was picked up by a getaway driver. Police have tracked their escape route heading toward Benalmádena via the old N-340 dual carriageway. However, the exact make or color of the vehicle is not yet known.

Investigation Underway

Spain’s National Police confirmed the deaths but did not release names. The case is being handled by UDYCO, a special anti-drug and organized crime unit. A secrecy order has been placed on the investigation by a local court, preventing officials from sharing further details.

Some eyewitnesses claimed the shooter was a blond man, and detectives are exploring the theory that British nationals may be involved.

Links to Ongoing Gang War

The murders come amid a violent gang war in Scotland over drug-related disputes. Both victims were members of the Lyons crime family in Glasgow.

Monaghan previously survived a shooting in 2017 outside a school and was also acquitted in the 2010 murder of Kevin ‘Gerbil’ Carroll in a Glasgow supermarket car park.

In 2017, both Monaghan and Lyons Jr were cleared of charges connected to a street fight outside a bar in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire.

Police Appeal

Police are urging witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
