Tais Bruna de Castro Stabbed to Death by Cleaner Claudio Elizeu in Sao Paulo Mall

Book influencer Tais Bruna de Castro was brutally killed after a cleaner stabbed her 20 times because she didn't want a relationship with him
A horrifying incident took place on Monday, June 2, in Jundiaí, São Paulo, Brazil, where a 36-year-old book influencer was brutally stabbed to death at a local food court.
The victim, Tais Bruna de Castro, was eating lunch at the Beco Fino shopping centre when she was attacked by a man identified as Claudio Elizeu, aged 40. Claudio worked as a cleaner at the mall.
According to local police, the man stabbed Tais more than 20 times. He reportedly became violent after she rejected his romantic interest.
Deadly Attack in Broad Daylight
Tais was well-known for her blog “Reader Fashion” where she shared book reviews and reading tips. She also worked as a travel agent in the same mall where she lost her life.
Witnesses say Claudio approached Tais while she was having lunch. He then pulled out a knife and began the violent assault.
After stabbing her, Claudio reportedly broke into an office, smashing windows and furniture. Police arrived shortly after and arrested him at the scene.
Motive Behind the Attack
Claudio confessed to the police that he killed Tais because she was not interested in a relationship with him. Authorities confirmed that the two did not share a close friendship before the attack.
This case is now being investigated under Brazil’s femicide law, which deals with gender-based violence against women.
Family and Public Reaction
Tais’s family released a heartbreaking message on her Instagram page, which has over 8,000 followers. They wrote: “This week, our dear Tais Bruna left us in a very sad and unbelievable way. ‘Reader Fashion’ was one of her biggest joys. Recommending books and connecting with readers brought her happiness. We thank everyone for their love and prayers. We will love you forever, Tais.”
Wave of Violence Against Influencers in Latin America
Tais’s killing is part of a growing trend of violence targeting social media influencers in Latin America.
In Colombia, 22-year-old model and influencer María José Estupiñán was shot dead by a hitman dressed as a delivery man last month.
In Mexico, 23-year-old TikTok star Valeria Marquez was killed while live streaming from her beauty salon in Jalisco. A man on a motorcycle fired multiple bullets, killing her on camera.
These shocking incidents have raised alarm about the safety of female influencers across the region.
