Prince Louis Steals the Show at Trooping the Colour with Cheeky Grins and Waves
The youngest Wales sibling once again proved to be the star of the show as Prince Louis, 7, delighted royal fans with his playful antics during Trooping the Colour on Saturday. The spirited royal flashed his signature cheeky grin and enthusiastically waved to crowds alongside siblings Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 10, as they arrived with their mother, the Princess of Wales, for the annual celebration of the King’s official birthday.
A Royal Family Affair
The Wales children made a stylish entrance, with Louis and George donning matching navy suits, white shirts, and red ties. The family rode in a carriage down The Mall, where thousands of well-wishers had gathered, many holding cardboard cutouts of Kate Middleton and King Charles in a show of support.
Louis, known for his animated expressions, didn’t disappoint—grinning widely (showing off what appeared to be a new set of front teeth) and at one point gazing pensively at the massive crowds. His playful demeanor was a highlight of the event, much like last year when he mimicked airplane noises during the RAF flypast and tugged at balcony blinds.
A Solemn Tribute Amid Celebrations
Before the festivities, King Charles requested a minute’s silence to honor the 241 victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed the adjustment to the program was made “as a mark of respect for the lives lost, the families in mourning, and all the communities affected by this awful tragedy.”
The Royals on the Balcony
Following the parade, the family joined King Charles and Queen Camilla on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the traditional RAF flypast. Notable attendees included:
- Prince William and Kate Middleton with their children
- Princess Anne (riding for the first time since her 2023 injury)
- Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh
- Lady Louise Windsor
Absent were Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Andrew, and his daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, as part of the King’s slimmed-down monarchy vision.
Why Trooping the Colour Matters
The centuries-old military parade, featuring 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians, officially marks the Sovereign’s birthday. This year, the Coldstream Guards presented their regimental flag (the Colour) to the King, who—due to ongoing cancer treatment—observed proceedings from a carriage rather than horseback.
Louis: The Unofficial Entertainer
From yawning during formal moments to attempting to open palace windows, Louis has become a fan favorite for his unfiltered reactions. This year was no exception, with the young prince once again stealing hearts with his infectious energy.
What’s Next for the Royals?
The event sets the stage for a busy summer of royal engagements, including upcoming state visits and the christening of the new Princess. For now, though, all eyes remain on Prince Louis—the little royal who continues to bring joy to tradition.
