16-Year-Old Teen Arrested After Baby and Two Others Killed in WestFest Carnival Shooting in Utah

A horrifying shooting at the WestFest carnival in West Valley City, Utah has left three people dead, including an 8-month-old baby and a 41-year-old woman, following a violent altercation between two groups.
Police responded to the incident around 9:30 p.m. near Centennial Park after a 16-year-old suspect opened fire on a crowd during a confrontation. The teenager, whose name has not been released, is currently in custody.
A third victim, an 18-year-old man, believed to be involved in the fight, also died at the scene.
Teen Victims and Casualties
Two more victims—a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl—were shot in the arms and are recovering in the hospital.
Authorities say the shooting appears to have started after an argument between two groups escalated. Officers nearby responded quickly and returned fire, although the suspect was not hit.
Community in Shock
Social media posts showed a massive police presence, with roads blocked and armed officers searching the area. One local witness said, “I heard 6-7 shots… cops were flying down the road, guns drawn.”
Official Statement
The West Valley City Police Department confirmed the shooting and stated that multiple people were hurt. A public information officer was dispatched to the scene shortly after.
This is not an isolated incident. The U.S. has experienced 156 mass shootings so far in 2025, with Utah recently rocked by another deadly shooting during the “No Kings” protest.
