Australian Tourist Zivan Radmanovic Shot Dead in Bali Villa; Police Still Investigating

16 June, 2025 13:13

CANGGU, BALI – In a shocking incident that has rattled the Australian and Balinese communities alike, Zivan Radmanovic, 32, was fatally shot after two men stormed a villa near the popular Bali tourist hub, Canggu, early Saturday morning.

A second Australian, Sanar Ghanim, was seriously wounded during the violent home invasion and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Initial Reports Now Retracted

Bali police initially announced that a suspect had been arrested, but a spokesperson later retracted the claim, stating that while a person of interest was being investigated, no official arrests had been made as of yet.

Authorities said that exit points and airports were quickly alerted following the attack, fearing that the armed suspects — believed to be foreign nationals — would attempt to flee the island.

What Happened in the Villa?

According to police and witness statements:

  • Zivan Radmanovic was shot twice in the chest and once in the foot.

  • His wife said she was jolted awake by his screams and witnessed a man in an orange jacket fire the shots.

  • Sanar Ghanim was also attacked and left bleeding inside the villa.

Police found:

  • 17 bullet casings

  • 2 intact projectiles

  • 55 bullet fragments

  • Gunshot holes in the villa’s windows

Witnesses: “Strong Australian Accent”

Two Balinese witnesses who lived in the same complex said they heard loud gunshots and explosions. When they stepped out, they saw a man wearing a green ride-hailing jacket, helmet, and facemask trying to start a scooter.

They distinctly heard the man say, “I can’t start my bike,” in what they described as a strong Australian accent.

Once the bike started, the suspect fled west. The witnesses later discovered the villa door had been blown open and blood was splattered inside.

Autopsy Awaiting Family Consent

Dr. Dudut Rustyadi, from the forensic department at Prof. Ngoerah Hospital, confirmed that the autopsy on Radmanovic is pending family approval. The medical team is also treating Sanar Ghanim for multiple injuries.

Police Investigation Ongoing

Despite earlier confusion over an arrest, Bali police say the investigation is ongoing, and forensic teams are examining the villa and surrounding areas.

The suspects remain at large, and their identity or nationality has not been officially confirmed, though multiple witnesses continue to reference thick Australian accents.

Context & Caution

This tragic event is raising concerns about tourist safety in Bali, especially in private rental accommodations. Australian consular officials are now involved, and tourists are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
