This is the horror moment a two-year-old child accidentally shoots his mum dead after picking up his dad's gun in front of his parents and starting to play with the weapon. The incident (pictured) happened on Friday night in Rio Verde de Mato Grosso in the Brazilian state Mato Grosso do Sul
A devastating tragedy unfolded in Brazil as 27-year-old Deborah Rodrigues Monteiro was accidentally shot dead by her two-year-old son, who picked up a Glock 9mm pistol from a table while his parents were distracted in conversation.
The horrifying incident was captured on the family’s own home security camera, showing the toddler grabbing the firearm and playing with it briefly before pulling the trigger. The bullet struck Deborah in the chest and arm, leaving her visibly in shock.
According to local authorities, the toddler’s father, a licensed gun owner and farmer, was seated beside Deborah during the incident. He immediately tried to assist her and retrieve the weapon, but Deborah collapsed shortly after, following their son who had wandered away in confusion.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The shooting happened on the family’s veranda in the small town of Rio Verde de Mato Grosso, located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
Investigation & Legal Action
Police chief Danielle Felismino confirmed the weapon and ammunition were seized at the scene. The husband, though legally licensed to own the firearm, will face manslaughter charges. However, he will remain free during the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the child will remain under his father’s care or if social services will intervene.
An autopsy was conducted the following day, but results have not been made public.

This tragic incident mirrors a similar case in Ohio, USA, in 2023, where a pregnant woman and her unborn baby were killed after her toddler accessed a gun left unsecured on a nightstand.
