Gjert Ingebrigtsen Cleared of Abuse Claims by Son Jakob, Found Guilty in Separate Incident

June 17, 2025 – Oslo, Norway: In a closely watched case that has captured national attention, Gjert Ingebrigtsen, the father and former coach of Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen, has been cleared of abuse allegations made by his son.

The Norwegian court ruled there was insufficient evidence to support Jakob’s claims that his father subjected him to a childhood of violence, fear, and intimidation. Jakob, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, had previously accused Gjert of harsh and abusive behavior during his early years as an athlete.

Guilty Verdict in Separate Assault on Daughter

Although cleared in the case related to Jakob, Gjert was found guilty of a separate incident involving his daughter Ingrid Ingebrigtsen, now 19. The court found that he struck Ingrid in the face with a towel during a domestic argument in 2022.

Gjert received a 15-day suspended prison sentence and was fined 10,000 Norwegian Kroner (approx. £745).
