Ewan Methven has admitted to the murder of his girlfriend, Phoenix Spencer-Horn, 21, in East Kilbride. He appeared at the High Court in Glasgow on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, and pleaded guilty.
The tragic event took place in November 2024, in the flat they shared on Glen Lee. That evening, the couple had ordered food and exchanged texts with Phoenix’s mother, Alison Spencer, around 9:30 p.m.
Later that night, Methven attacked Phoenix. The court heard he used multiple weapons during the assault. He then spent two days trying to hide what had happened.
Methven, 27, worked as a postman. Earlier that day, he had told Phoenix he felt lonely due to her work hours. They had been in a relationship for two years after meeting at a family event.
After the incident, Methven sent messages pretending Phoenix was okay. He delayed calling emergency services until November 18, two days after the attack.
Police found Phoenix’s body inside the home. Methven claimed in his 999 call that he was not in a clear state of mind, blaming substances he had taken. However, there was no sign of this when their food was delivered.
Detective Chief Inspector Susie Cairns said: “My thoughts remain with Phoenix’s family and friends. We are committed to ensuring justice is done.”
Methven will be sentenced on Monday, July 14, 2025. Members of Phoenix’s grieving family were present in court as he admitted to murder and attempting to avoid justice.
