Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a 75-year-old man in Chiswick. The victim, John Murray, was found unconscious at his home on Carlton Road on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
Emergency services were called by the London Ambulance Service. Paramedics tried to save him, but sadly, he died at the scene. He was later confirmed to be John Murray, a retired man who had moved to Chiswick.
What Happened?
A post-mortem examination was carried out shortly after his death. It showed that John died from a head injury. At first, the injury seemed accidental.
But after a more detailed test by forensic experts, the result shocked everyone. It was confirmed that the injury was caused by an assault. This means someone had physically attacked him.
As a result, police officially launched a murder investigation.
A Peaceful Man, A Shocking Crime
John’s family said they are heartbroken and shocked. In a statement, they said: “We are devastated and in complete shock to learn that our Dad and Grandad was murdered. John had so much more life to live.”
They also asked the public to help police: “We are struggling to understand why someone would hurt a 75-year-old defenceless man in his own home. If anyone knows anything, please come forward. Help us get justice for our family.”
Police Make Appeal
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie from the Metropolitan Police is leading the investigation. He said: “Our thoughts are with John’s family and the Chiswick community. John was a father, a grandfather, and a kind neighbour. He was always ready to help others.”
Mr Murray was well known in the neighbourhood. Locals often saw him riding his motorbike or spending time in the communal garden. That’s where he was last seen alive on the morning of October 12.
Witnesses and Video Footage Needed
Police are now asking for witnesses to come forward. They want to hear from anyone who saw anything unusual near Carlton Road that day.
They also need:
CCTV footage
Dashcam videos
Doorbell camera clips
Even if it seems small, your information could be very important.
Detectives are also asking people who spoke with John in the days before he died to share anything they noticed. Any change in his behaviour could help solve the case.
If you have any details or recordings, please contact the Met Police or Crimestoppers.
