Aaron Donta Johnson Caught After Taunting Polk County Sheriff on Facebook

A 29-year-old fugitive in Florida, Aaron Donta Johnson, was arrested on June 17, 2025, after he taunted law enforcement on social media. Johnson had been wanted for violating pretrial release conditions but instead of laying low, he posted mocking messages to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Grady Judd.
Johnson Dares Police on Facebook
In a series of Facebook posts, Johnson made fun of the authorities. He said they were too slow to catch him. “Y’all too busy fishing,” one post read. Another said, “I done outran y’all several times.” He even joked about needing a horse or helicopter to catch him.
Hashtags like #ComeAgainGrady and #ImGoneGrady appeared in his messages, clearly mocking the sheriff and his deputies.
Law Enforcement Accepts the Challenge
Polk County Sheriff’s Office did not stay quiet. They responded directly to Johnson online: “No worries – we will find you. Bet.”
Unknown to Johnson, the Lakeland Police Department had joined the chase behind the scenes. Officers began tracking his location while Johnson continued his public taunts.
Arrest Made in Lakeland
On Monday, Johnson’s game ended. Lakeland police officers located him and made the arrest. He was taken directly to the Polk County Jail, ending his short-lived bragging spree.
Lakeland Police posted online, “Nice try, Aaron. Maybe next time… but probably not.” They confirmed that their officers and detectives personally delivered him to deputies.
Sheriff’s Office Has Final Word
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office followed up with a humorous message:
“You done messed up, A-aron!”, referencing the famous “Key & Peele” comedy sketch. They added, “Thanks LakelandPD. #TeamworkMakesTheDreamwork #PlayStupidGamesWinStupidPrizes #AaronRanButWeCaughtHimAnyway.”
Johnson’s Criminal Record
According to jail records, Aaron Donta Johnson has a long criminal history dating back to at least 2015. His previous charges include:
Drug possession
Driving with a suspended license
Domestic assault
Burglary
Threats to harm others in writing
He now faces new charges, including violation of pretrial release conditions.
