Who Is Mohammad Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh? Iran Hangs Man Convicted of Spying for Israel

23 June, 2025 13:40

Iran has carried out the execution of Mohammad Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh, who was accused of leading a cyber unit connected to Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad.

As reported by the semi-official Tasnim news agency, Mohammad Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh was detained in late 2023 on charges of conducting cyber espionage for Israel.

According to Iran’s judiciary, Shayesteh tried to access classified information for Mossad. After undergoing full legal proceedings and receiving final approval from the Supreme Court, his death sentence was implemented.

Following Israeli strikes on June 13, Iran has executed at least three individuals accused of spying for Mossad. A day earlier, another alleged Mossad operative, Majid Mousavi, was also executed for attempting to disclose sensitive nuclear data.

Iran has a history of taking firm action against individuals it claims are spies or saboteurs working for Mossad, considering them a serious threat to national security.
