Who is Kyle Clifford? John Hunt Breaks Silence After Crossbow Murders of Wife and Daughters

26 June, 2025 17:13

London – BBC racing commentator John Hunt has spoken publicly for the first time since the shocking murder of his wife and two daughters in Bushey, Hertfordshire. The attacker, Kyle Clifford, was the ex-boyfriend of Hunt’s daughter, Louise.

The murders happened in July 2024, and the case shocked the country due to its brutal nature and the use of a crossbow as a weapon.

Chilling Warning Signs Recalled

In a new interview with the BBC, Hunt recalled a disturbing moment from a wedding trip. Clifford had mocked Louise in front of guests, saying, “One thing she doesn’t do is know how to work an oven properly.” This cruel comment now seems like an early sign of his controlling behavior.

After the murders, Hunt reviewed old messages between Louise and Clifford. He noticed signs of “gentle manipulation” but nothing that suggested violence.

Amy Hunt: “We Had No Idea He Was Capable of This”

Hunt’s surviving daughter, Amy, told the BBC that although Clifford had started showing toxic behavior when Louise ended the relationship, no one imagined he could be so violent.

Amy said, “Did we have any idea he was capable of stabbing my mum, tying up Louise, raping her, and shooting both my sisters? Absolutely not.”

She also criticized the media’s focus on calling Clifford a “crossbow maniac.” She said this made him seem unreal, when in fact, “He was just a man – with a job, a family, a life. That’s what makes it more terrifying.”

John Hunt in Court: “You’re a Psychopath”

In court, John Hunt gave a powerful victim impact statement. He looked at Clifford and called him a “psychopath.” His words expressed the pain of losing his entire family in such a horrific way.

Who is Kyle Clifford?

Kyle Clifford, born in April 1998 in Enfield, North London, is one of four siblings. His older brother, Bradley Clifford, is already serving a life sentence for killing two teenagers in a car attack in 2018.

Kyle joined the British Army’s Queen’s Dragoon Guards in 2019 but left after two years. After leaving the army, he briefly worked at a security installation firm in St Albans.

An army source described him as immature and troubled during training.

The Day of the Murders and Arrest

On July 9, 2024, police found Carol, Hannah, and Louise Hunt seriously injured in their home. A crossbow and knife were believed to be used in the attack. Medics were unable to save the victims.

Police launched a manhunt for Clifford. He was found injured in Enfield the next day and taken into custody.

Legal Status and Ongoing Trial

Clifford has denied all charges, including three counts of murder, false imprisonment, and possession of deadly weapons. He claims he did not commit the crimes, though overwhelming evidence points to him.

The trial is ongoing, and the United Kingdom’s legal system continues to face questions over the ease of crossbow ownership, which remains unlicensed.
