Who is Sunda Ayari? Tunisian Woman Seeks Help in Karachi After Love Marriage with Muhammad Amir Ends

28 June, 2025 13:18

KARACHI – A 19-year-old woman from Tunisia, Sunda Ayari, has approached the Women’s Police Station in Karachi seeking asylum and assistance after her love marriage with a local man from Lyari ended in divorce.

Sunda arrived in Karachi on November 28, 2024, after falling in love online with Muhammad Amir, a resident of Nayabad Khadda Market, in Karachi’s Old City area. Their relationship began on social media, where they became friends, and soon their friendship blossomed into a romantic bond.

Love Story That Crossed Borders

Sunda made the bold decision to travel from Tunisia in North Africa to Pakistan after obtaining a visa. Upon her arrival, she was welcomed by Amir and his family. The couple got married the very next day, and their marriage was officially registered on March 6 at the Union Council Baghdadi in Lyari.

For a while, Sunda says, everything was fine. The couple lived happily and adjusted to their new life together. However, in recent months, disagreements and misunderstandings led to fights. Eventually, Amir divorced Sunda, leaving her emotionally and financially devastated.

Visa Expired, No Way Home

Sunda’s 90-day visa expired on February 18, 2025. Without legal travel documents or a renewed visa, she is unable to return to Tunisia.

She is now seeking help from the authorities. Sunda requires:

  • A visa renewal or exit permit, and

  • Around $400 USD for a return flight

  • Approximately Rs. 225,000 for visa renewal and documentation

The young woman currently has no means of support and is appealing to the government and the public for financial and legal help.

Similar Cases

Earlier, a 27-year-old American woman, Kerinsha Madison Grace (who later changed her name to Kaniz Ayesha after converting to Islam), also came to Pakistan from South Carolina. She had married a man from Jhang after a two-year online relationship.

Sunda’s Current Appeal

Sunda has requested support from Pakistan’s immigration authorities and human rights organizations. Her main priority now is to return safely to her home country and reunite with her family in Tunisia.

She remains stranded in Karachi, with no money, expired documents, and no legal way to exit the country without assistance.
