Diogo Jota Brother André Silva Dies in A-52 Car Crash in Spain
Tragedy struck Portuguese football today as André Silva, younger brother of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, passed away in a horrific car accident in Zamora, Spain. He was just 26 years old.
The two brothers were traveling together on the A-52 highway when their vehicle reportedly lost control and burst into flames near the town of Cernadilla. Emergency services confirmed that both André Silva and Diogo Jota died at the scene.
Emergency Response and Official Statement
The Castilla y León 1-1-2 emergency service released a statement: “Several calls were received around Km. 65 of the A-52 reporting a vehicle accident. A car was involved in a serious crash and was engulfed in flames. Two victims were confirmed deceased on-site by medical personnel.”
The Zamora Traffic Police, Provincial Fire Brigade, and Sacyl Emergency Medical Units responded promptly, but were unable to save either brother.
Who Was André Silva?
André Silva, not to be confused with the international striker of the same name, was a professional footballer who played in the Portuguese second division. A promising athlete and younger sibling to national team forward Diogo Jota, André had always shown passion for the game and had been admired in youth football circuits.
Friends and former coaches described André as humble, disciplined, and full of potential. Though he never reached the same fame as his older brother, André had a growing fanbase and was admired for his loyalty to family and sport.
The Bond Between the Brothers
Diogo and André were extremely close, often seen vacationing together and supporting one another on and off the pitch. Just two weeks before the tragedy, the Jota family had celebrated Diogo’s wedding to Rute Cardoso in a grand ceremony in Porto. André stood proudly beside his brother on that special day.
Their final trip together was meant to be a quiet family holiday in Spain. It has now ended in unimaginable grief.
Tributes Pour In for André Silva
As news of the accident spreads, tributes to André Silva are pouring in from:
Portuguese football clubs
Youth academies where André trained
Former teammates
Fans of Diogo Jota and the national team
A close friend posted on Instagram: “You never wanted the spotlight, but you always shone in our hearts. RIP, André.”
Family and National Mourning
The deaths of André Silva and Diogo Jota have left the Jota family devastated. Public mourning has started in both Zamora and Portugal, with candles, flowers, and jerseys placed outside football academies and stadiums in their honor.
Fans and supporters are expected to gather in Porto this weekend for a public memorial service, pending confirmation from the family.
