Diogo Jota Was On His Way to Catch a Ferry When He Died in Tragic Crash

Diogo Jota Fiery Car Crash
Liverpool football star Diogo Jota was on his way to catch a ferry to England when he died in a tragic car crash in Spain. The 28-year-old Portugal international was heading back to Liverpool for pre-season training, according to BBC Sport.
Jota had recently undergone minor lung surgery, and doctors advised him not to fly. To stay safe, he chose to travel by road and sea instead of boarding a plane.
Planned Journey from Porto to Santander
It is understood that Jota began his journey from Porto, Portugal, and was driving to Santander, a city in northern Spain, to catch a ferry. From there, he was planning to sail to the UK and return in time for Liverpool’s pre-season camp, which was scheduled to begin on Monday.
Sadly, Jota never made it.
Tragic Crash in Zamora, Spain
Jota and his younger brother, Andre Silva, were driving through the Spanish province of Zamora, near the Portuguese border, when their car crashed around 12:30am on Thursday, June 30.
According to the Guardia Civil, the car suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking another vehicle. The vehicle veered off the road and caught fire. Both Jota and Andre were declared dead at the scene.
Zamora is located roughly 190 miles from both Porto and Santander, which confirms that the brothers were halfway through their journey.
Jota Had Also Traveled by Sea for His Wedding
This was not the first time Jota avoided air travel. Reports suggest that Jota had earlier used the same road and sea route to reach Porto for his wedding, following medical advice to avoid flying after surgery.
Football World in Mourning
Jota’s tragic death has shocked football fans around the world. Liverpool FC, the Portugal national team, and supporters have all shared emotional tributes. Many are still struggling to process the news.
The final details of the accident are still under investigation, and the full report is expected to be released in the coming days.
