8171 SMS received but no BISP payment? Here’s what to do

05 July, 2025 21:36

Have you received a message from 8171 saying you’re eligible for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) but haven’t received any money yet? Don’t worry — many people face this issue. Here’s a simple guide to help you understand why this happens and what steps you can take.

Why Did I Get an SMS but No Payment?

Receiving an SMS from 8171 means your information matches BISP records, but your payment may still be on hold. Common reasons include:

  • Payment is still being processed.

  • Fingerprint verification failed.

  • Your district is temporarily locked for payments.

  • The SIM used isn’t registered in your name.

  • Your CNIC is under final review.

  • You changed your mobile number, so messages aren’t reaching you.

What to Do First

Send CNIC Again to 8171

  • Open your SMS app.

  • Type your 13-digit CNIC number (no spaces).

  • Send it to 8171 and wait for a reply about your payment status.

Check Status Online

  • Visit the 8171 web portal.

  • Enter your CNIC and captcha code.

  • Check if your payment is approved, in process, or on hold.

Common Issues and Solutions

Not Receiving SMS Properly

  • Update your contact number at the nearest BISP office.

  • Ensure your SIM is registered in your name.

  • Check your phone’s settings to allow SMS.
    Biometric Fingerprint Failed

  • Update your fingerprints at a NADRA center.

  • Visit the nearest BISP center for re-verification.
    CNIC Under Verification

  • Wait 3–10 working days for processing.

  • If still no update, visit your local BISP office for manual checking.
    District Lock or System Block

  • Some areas may be temporarily frozen for payments.

  • Visit a BISP help center and request a data review.

When to Visit a BISP Office

Go to your nearest BISP Tehsil office if:

  • You’ve tried SMS and the online portal, but there’s still no payment.

  • Take these with you:

    • Original CNIC

    • Registered SIM mobile phone

    • Screenshot of the 8171 SMS
      Tell the officer:

“I got a message from 8171, but the payment hasn’t been released.”

Tips to Avoid Future Delays

✔ Always use the same mobile number registered with BISP.
✔ Keep your CNIC valid and updated.
✔ Update fingerprints at NADRA if needed.
✔ Never pay agents for help — BISP services are 100% free.
✔ Regularly check your payment status using 8171 or the web portal.
