Tom Floyd Found Dead in Darwen Flat Just Days After Birth of Second Child

A father from Lancashire, Tom Floyd, known to friends as “Tommo”, was found dead at his flat in Darwen just two days after the birth of his second child.

Tom, 31, was discovered on March 5, 2025, after his neighbour raised concerns. The neighbour had been checking in regularly on Tom’s dog but became worried when he couldn’t unlock the door.

He contacted a friend, Luke Pearson, who climbed through an open window and tragically found Tom’s body lying cold on the sofa.

Tom, originally from Blackburn, had welcomed his newborn just two days earlier. His sister, Lisa, said his funeral was “packed out”, calling him “mischievous” and “full of fun.”

At an inquest held recently, it was confirmed that Tom had been struggling with drug and alcohol misuse. Friends shared that he had been neglecting his health and appeared very thin in the weeks leading up to his death.

Toxicology tests revealed that Tom had taken cocaine and cannabis shortly before he died. Cocaine is known to cause heart problems, and Tom had reportedly experienced chest pains and palpitations in the months prior to his death.

Assistant Coroner Laura Fox confirmed the official cause of death as a result of drug toxicity.

Tom’s friend Luke told police that while Tom had no known health issues, he used drugs like weed and cocaine, especially after payday.

Police found empty drug bags, a half-smoked joint, and a bottle of whisky at the scene, which Lisa and her husband Ryan said was strange, as Tom usually “hated whisky.”

Although Lisa noticed what she believed were “finger marks” on Tom’s neck and raised concerns about Luke being with him earlier, the post-mortem found no signs of assault or foul play.

Tom had recently lost his job and was going through a tough time. His lifestyle, according to friends, had become unstable.

The coroner concluded the hearing by confirming Tom’s death was drug-related, stating:
“Thomas Francis Floyd died on March 5, 2025, at Leven Grove, Darwen. Mr Floyd died as a result of the effects of drug toxicity.”

Tom leaves behind two children, and his passing has left his family and local community heartbroken.
