Glen Michael passed away peacefully on Wednesday, his family has said
Glen Michael, the much-loved Scottish television presenter best known for Glen Michael’s Cartoon Cavalcade, has passed away at the age of 99. His family confirmed that he died peacefully at his home in Maidens, South Ayrshire, on Wednesday, July 10, 2025.
Who Was Glen Michael?
Glen Michael was born Cecil Edward Buckland in Paignton, Devon, England. He moved to London as a teenager to chase his dream of working in entertainment. By the age of 17, he was already working in theatre, comedy, film, and variety shows.
In the 1960s, he moved to Scotland and auditioned for Scottish Television (STV), where they were looking for someone to introduce cartoon shows. Although he believed his audition was poor and even admitted to “making it up as he went along,” Glen impressed the producers and landed the job.
Glen Michael’s Cartoon Cavalcade
His show, Cartoon Cavalcade, began in 1966 and quickly became one of the most popular children’s programmes in Scotland. It aired for 26 years, originally during weekdays before moving to Sunday afternoons, and was later renamed Glen Michael’s Cartoon Cavalcade.
The show introduced generations of Scottish children to Bugs Bunny, Mr. Magoo, Spider-Man, and more. Glen also read birthday cards on air, making young viewers feel special and involved.
“Scotland’s been very good to me. The people of Scotland have been very good to me,” Glen once said.
The show aired its final episode in 1991, with a special New Year’s broadcast on January 1. However, Glen continued touring Scottish schools with a live version of the Cavalcade in the early 2000s, bringing joy to a new generation.
