Radhika Yadav, a 25-year-old Indian tennis player and coach, was tragically shot dead by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their home in Gurugram on Thursday afternoon. She had previously played in international tennis tournaments and later started coaching at her own tennis academy.

The shocking incident was reported by a private hospital in Gurugram. Hospital staff informed the police that a young woman had died from bullet injuries. When officers reached the hospital, only Radhika’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, was present. Her parents were not there.

Police later confirmed that the murder took place after a heated argument. According to the FIR filed at Sector 56 Police Station, Kuldeep said Deepak had frequent fights with his daughter. He did not want her to run the tennis academy anymore. Deepak was reportedly disturbed by comments from locals, who claimed that the household was surviving on Radhika’s earnings.

Station House Officer Vinod Kumar stated that Deepak was ashamed. Locals would say that he lived off his daughter’s money. Even though Deepak had some income from renting out properties, he felt insulted by the remarks. He asked Radhika many times to shut down the academy. But she refused.

Radhika had played 36 singles and 7 doubles matches in the ITF circuit during her career. Her last singles match was in March 2024, and her last doubles game was in June 2023. After stepping away from professional tennis, she focused on coaching young athletes in Gurugram.

On the day of the murder, Deepak shot Radhika three times from behind. He later confessed to the crime. NDTV reported that he told police she refused to quit coaching even after he warned her several times.

Police are continuing their investigation. Radhika’s tragic death has left the Indian tennis community in shock.
