BISP to increase Taleemi Wazaif by Rs. 500 – Jan 2026

18 July, 2025 16:24

The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is planning to increase the educational stipends given to children of eligible women. Starting January 2026, the government is considering adding Rs. 500 per child under the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif initiative.

This step aims to help families cope with rising costs and encourage children—especially from poor households—to stay in school.

Why Is This Important?

In recent years, inflation has made it harder for low-income families to afford school expenses like fees, uniforms, and books. Many children, especially girls, are forced to drop out because of financial struggles.

By offering an extra Rs. 500 per child, the government hopes to:

  • Reduce the burden of school costs
  • Support mothers who keep their children in school
  • Promote education in poor communities

This plan focuses on families enrolled in the BISP Kafaalat scheme, which supports women-led households.

What Is Benazir Taleemi Wazaif?

The Taleemi Wazaif program gives extra cash to mothers receiving quarterly financial aid from BISP. It is meant to encourage school enrollment and regular attendance.

To qualify:

  • The mother must be a registered BISP beneficiary.

  • Children must be enrolled in school (nursery to Grade 12).

  • School attendance must be at least 70% each month.

Payments are sent directly to the mother’s account every three months.

What’s Changing in January 2026?

Currently, BISP families get Rs. 13,500 every quarter. From January 2026, the plan is to increase this to Rs. 14,500. On top of this, an additional Rs. 500 per child is being considered.

For example:

  • A mother with two school-going children could get an extra Rs. 1,000, raising her total quarterly support to Rs. 15,500.

Who Will Benefit?

This increase will help:

  • Mothers already enrolled in BISP

  • Children attending public or registered private schools

  • Families with good school attendance records

This will also encourage more parents to enroll their children in school and keep them attending regularly.

How to Qualify for the New Stipend?

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Visit your nearest BISP Dynamic Registration Center (DRC).

  2. Submit your children’s school enrollment certificates.

  3. Ensure attendance is above 70% every month.

  4. Wait for quarterly payments in your account.

BISP staff regularly check school records. Families not following the rules may face a temporary suspension of benefits.

Why Is the Government Doing This?

Pakistan is facing tough economic times, and inflation has hit poor families the hardest. The government has already increased BISP’s budget to Rs. 716 billion to help vulnerable groups.

This Rs. 500 stipend increase is part of a bigger effort to:

  • Fight poverty
  • Improve school attendance
  • Boost literacy in Pakistan

This move is not just about financial support; it’s about building a better future for children in low-income families.
