BISP beneficiaries alert: Follow new rules to avoid disqualification

The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) is helping millions of poor families in Pakistan, especially women and vulnerable households. It gives monthly cash support to help them buy food, pay for health care, and send children to school.

But now there’s an important update for all BISP beneficiaries and those who want to join the program in the future. This update is about ration card holders, especially if the ration card is in the name of the woman or her husband.

What Is the New Rule?

The BISP administration has announced:

If you (or your husband) are registered in BISP and have a ration card in either of your names, you must not use the ration card to withdraw money or get any financial benefits.

Here’s why this matters:

• If you’re receiving help from both BISP and the ration card scheme, you’re considered to be taking double benefits.

• The government’s system will detect this and may remove you from BISP permanently.

• Even if the ration card was issued by mistake or without your knowledge, it can still create problems for your BISP eligibility.

Why Is This Rule Important?

This rule is meant to ensure that aid only goes to families who need it the most. You can only get help from one program at a time—either BISP or the ration card scheme, not both.

If found using both, your BISP payments could stop, and your name may be blacklisted from future support.

What Should You Do Now?

To keep getting BISP payments without issues:

• Don’t use the ration card if it’s under your or your husband’s name and you’re already in BISP.
• If you’ve used the card before, stop using it immediately.
• Visit the nearest BISP office or welfare center to check and update your records.
• If the ration card was issued by mistake, request them to deactivate it.
• Make sure you’re not listed under multiple government aid programs at the same time.
