Govt plans to move welfare payments to JazzCash

19 July, 2025 15:50

The Government of Pakistan is planning to stop using Bank of Punjab and Bank Alfalah for distributing payments under key welfare programs. Instead, people may soon start receiving their money through JazzCash, a popular mobile wallet service.

This move aims to make it easier and faster for millions of low-income families, elderly citizens, farmers, and students to get financial support.

Why Use JazzCash?

Easier Access: JazzCash has over 120,000 agents across Pakistan, even in villages. This means people won’t have to travel far to collect their money.
Faster Payments: Money can be sent instantly, reducing delays and cutting out middlemen.
Lower Costs: Mobile payments reduce paperwork and long queues at banks.

Which Programs Are Affected?

The following programs may soon switch to JazzCash:

  • Waseela-e-Taleem (Education support for children)

  • Himmat Card (For persons with disabilities)

  • Buzurg Card (Support for senior citizens)

  • Kisan Card (For farmers)

  • Livestock Support Programs

How Will It Work?

  1. Register: Beneficiaries will need a JazzCash account. They can register using their CNIC:

    • On the JazzCash app

    • By dialing *786# (no internet needed)

    • Or by visiting a JazzCash agent

  2. Receive Payments: Money will be sent directly to their mobile wallet.

  3. Withdraw Cash: They can withdraw from any JazzCash agent or ATM.

Possible Challenges

  • Some people, especially in rural areas, may need help using mobile wallets.

  • Areas with weak mobile signals might face delays.

  • Awareness campaigns will be needed to protect users from scams.

Why This Change?

The government wants welfare payments to be quicker, easier, and more transparent. JazzCash’s large network makes it easier for people in remote areas to get their funds.

Final Note

This shift to JazzCash could improve welfare payments for millions across Pakistan. People are advised to register their mobile wallets early and stay alert for official updates.
