Who is Shanti? Karachi’s Newlywed Girl Dies After Weeks in Coma Amid Alleged Sexual Assault by Husband

A heartbreaking case has emerged from Karachi, where Shanti, a 19-year-old newly married woman, died after spending weeks in a coma following an alleged brutal sexual assault by her husband.

Shanti passed away at 10:45 a.m. on July 23, 2025, at the Trauma Centre of Civil Hospital Karachi, according to Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed.

Details of the Tragic Case

Shanti had been married to a man named Ashok on June 15. Just two days later, on June 17, she was reportedly subjected to unnatural and violent sexual assault by him. Her condition became critical soon after the incident.

She was first treated at a different hospital and then shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors confirmed signs of sexual assault through a medical examination.

Legal Action and Police Response

The police registered a case on July 5 after receiving a formal complaint from Shanti’s brother. Baghdadi Police Station SHO Majid Ali confirmed that the husband, Ashok, had been arrested following the complaint.

Authorities are continuing the investigation and say that strict legal action will be taken.
