Who Is Kennedy Kalombotole? KNH Murder Suspect Still a Mystery

A man named Kennedy Kalombotole is at the center of a chilling mystery in Kenya. He is the main suspect in two brutal murders that happened inside Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi. But the most confusing part? No one knows who he really is.

A Suspect With No Identity

On Thursday, Kalombotole appeared before the Kibera Law Courts. The State admitted they still do not know his true identity. He has no ID, no known home, and no relatives.

The court heard that he was arrested after the murders of two patients inside the hospital. The victims were Gilbert Kinyua, killed in February 2025, and Edward Maingi Ndegwa, who was murdered in July 2025.

Court Grants 10-Day Detention

Magistrate Daisy Mutai allowed the prosecution to detain Kalombotole for 10 more days. He will be held under tight security at Mbagathi Hospital, not KNH. The court said keeping him at the hospital where the murders took place would be inappropriate.

The OCS Kilimani Police has been ordered to ensure the suspect is safe while in custody and receives necessary medical care.

Blood-Stained Slippers Led to Arrest

After the second killing in Ward 7B, the DCI’s Crime Scene Unit launched an investigation. Officers found slippers with bloodstains under Kalombotole’s bed. He was also a patient in the same ward, which led to his immediate arrest.

A Mysterious Past

Dr. William Sigilai, a senior doctor at KNH, said Kalombotole was first admitted in November 2022 to the hospital’s ICU. After some time, he was moved to a general ward.

The hospital said he was homeless and had no identification. They tried several times to confirm his identity through fingerprints and even social media posts, but no one came forward.

In June 2024, the hospital found a temporary home for him. But in December 2024, the man returned to KNH after falling sick. The previous home refused to take him back.

The court will wait for further investigations before deciding the next steps. For now, the mystery around Kalombotole’s identity and his possible role in the KNH ward murders continues to puzzle authorities.
