Good News: Electricity Prices Likely to Drop as Rs. 53 Billion Relief Expected
Govt considers increasing protected electricity limit to 300 units
Electricity prices may drop by Rs. 1.75 per unit for consumers nationwide, according to a recent proposal.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request for a quarterly tariff adjustment.
This application pertains to the fourth quarter of the 2024-25 fiscal year, and if approved, it could provide consumers with a relief of over Rs. 53.39 billion. The adjustment would be applicable to all government-run DISCOs, including K-Electric.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is scheduled to hold a hearing on this matter on August 4. If the adjustments are approved for the months of September, October, and November, the relief could increase to Rs. 2.10 per unit.
The final decision regarding the new electricity rates will be made by NEPRA after reviewing the application.
