Who is Audrey Crews? Paralysed Woman Writes Her Name After 20 Years with Neuralink Brain Chip

Audrey Crews, who has been paralyzed since she was 16, has made history by writing her name again after two decades—using only her mind.
The breakthrough was made possible by Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain-computer interface company. Instead of writing with her hand, the letters of her name appeared on a screen, powered by signals from her brain.
Audrey Becomes First Woman with Neuralink Implant
Audrey is the first woman in the world to receive Neuralink’s brain chip implant. In a viral post on X, she shared her excitement:
“I tried writing my name for the first time in 20 years. I’m working on it. Lol #Neuralink,”
Her post showed the signature appearing on her laptop. She also shared:
“Here are some more of my doodles! I’m taking requests. Lol. Imagine your pointer finger is left click and the cursor movement is with your wrist. Without physically doing it. Just a normal day using telepathy.”
Elon Musk Shares the Moment
Elon Musk reacted to her video, stating:
“She is controlling her computer just by thinking. Most people don’t realize this is possible.”
The video quickly gained millions of views and sparked wide interest.
The Science Behind the Achievement
Doctors at the University of Miami implanted a device into Audrey’s motor cortex using 128 thin threads. The chip is about the size of a coin. However, Audrey clarified:
“I also want to clarify this implant will not allow me to walk again or regain movement. It’s strictly for telepathy only.”
This allows her to interact with her computer without physical movement.
Human Trials of Neuralink Begin
Audrey is officially patient P9 in Neuralink’s PRIME study. Another participant, Nick Wray, an ALS patient and P8, shared his own experience:
He said he hasn’t felt such “digital autonomy” in years and added that if ALS was the price to try this, he would accept it “gladly, willingly, and without hesitation.”
Founded in 2016, Neuralink is developing its brain interface technology for patients with severe neurological challenges.
A Step Toward Mind-Controlled Tech
Although it won’t restore physical movement, Audrey’s ability to sign her name again using just her thoughts is being seen as a symbol of hope and independence. It’s a powerful beginning in connecting human brains directly with digital devices.
