Who is Peter Alt? Long Island Fire Chief Fired After Yelling at Girl!

06 August, 2025 17:37

A shocking video showing Long Island fire chief Peter Alt yelling at a 10-year-old girl on a stretcher has led to public outrage and his immediate removal from duty. The incident, recorded during an emergency call in West Babylon, was posted on TikTok on Monday and quickly went viral.

Fire Chief Relieved of Duties

Following the backlash, the North Babylon Volunteer Fire Company released a statement on Tuesday confirming that Alt had been relieved of his duties.

“The fire company is presently reviewing all of its training, policies, and procedures and will determine if further training with respect to responding to emergency calls is required,”
“The fire company does not condone this behavior and deems it unacceptable,” the statement continued.

What Happened During the Emergency Call

Peter Alt, a 22-year veteran of the fire company, was among the first responders to a family’s call for help to calm down a distressed child on Monday night. While the 10-year-old girl was being moved into the ambulance, a neighbor filmed the chief yelling profanities at her.

“Shut the f–k up! It’s like this with you every f–king week!” Alt yelled.
“I don’t want to go!” the girl cried. “I want to go home!”
“Shut your mouth!” Alt responded as the ambulance doors closed.

Community and Family Reaction

Local residents expressed concern over how the situation was handled.
Neighbor Mark Simms told NBC New York,

“That’s not a professional way to deal with people. I wouldn’t want him to speak to my children like that or anyone in my family. I’d be outraged myself.”

Town Officials Condemn Behavior

In a Facebook post, Town of Babylon officials condemned the fire chief’s actions:

“The use of demeaning and inappropriate language by a first responder during an aided call is appalling and completely at odds with the standards of dignity, respect, and professionalism our residents deserve.”
They also confirmed that a full investigation is now underway.
