BISP launches digital payments in August 2025 for faster, clearer aid
In August 2025, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) started using a new digital payment system to send financial aid to people in Pakistan. This new method is faster, safer, and more transparent.
Why Change Was Needed
Before, BISP gave money through cash points, ATMs, and banks. This caused problems like:
Long lines at payment places.
High travel costs for people in far areas.
Fraud and illegal fees from middlemen.
Delays in payments.
Difficult to track payments.
The digital system will fix these problems and make payments easier.
How the New System Works
Now, beneficiaries will get money through mobile phones and digital wallets. This means:
No need to visit payment centres often.
Use mobile apps, SMS codes, or bank accounts to get money.
Withdraw cash from authorized agents or ATMs, or pay using mobile payments.
Receive SMS alerts for every payment to keep things clear.
Pilot Project and Future Plans
The government will first test this system in 2-3 districts in August 2025. If it works well, they will expand it across the country by mid-2026. Priority will be given to rural areas, places with more fraud problems, and areas with good mobile coverage.
Benefits for People
This new way of paying money will:
Make payments faster.
Keep money safe from theft.
Save travel and service costs.
Make payments transparent and trackable.
Help more women open and use bank or mobile accounts.
Government’s Vision
Officials say this is part of Pakistan’s plan to use technology for better social support. They want aid to reach people directly without loss, improve service using data, and help beneficiaries use their accounts for saving money or paying bills.
Challenges to Overcome
Some problems may happen, like:
People not knowing how to use mobile payments.
Poor internet in some rural areas.
New fraud attempts.
Need for training beneficiaries and agents.
The government will run awareness programs and support centres to help everyone adjust.
